Susie L. Morris, longtime resident of New London and beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009.

One of five children, Susie was the only girl born to the late Albert T. and Susie Arrington on January 6, 1928 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She attended Browley High School and, upon graduation, married the love of her life, the late Joseph E. Morris, Jr. Together they would give life to seven children.

Susie came to New London County in 1958 in search of a better life for her family. It was here that she embarked on a long and flulfilling career of 16 years as a nurses aide, using her love of life and fiery personality to provide assistance to handicapped children at the former Seaside Regional Center.

Awaiting her in eternal repose are her parents, husband, three sons --Joseph, Delomond and Ronald Morris — and dearest friends Cynthia Pye and Patricia Guess. She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Carolyn Norfleet (and husband Frank) of Brooklyn, NY and Jacqueline Moths of Ahoskie, NC; sons Calvin Morris (and wife Cynthia) of Waterford, CT and Elton Morris (wife Shirley) of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Danford of New London, CT, Joyce MackIm of Hampton, VA and Nancy Arrington of Manhattan, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Hunting Street, New London with a calling hour from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London.
