Cremation
In cremation, the body is placed in a chamber where heat and evaporation allows it to break down into its basic components. Although the cremated remains are often referred to as ashes, they are actually bone fragments. The cremated remains are then placed in a permanent urn or in a temporary container that will allow it to be transported to another location.
The weight of the cremated remains depends on the size of the body although they generally weigh three to nine pounds.
The process of cremation is final. This is why our funeral directors are on hand to fully explain the procedure to help you understand your options. In addition to this, we can also help you select between a direct cremation and a viewing with cremation.
Burial
Byles-MacDougall Funeral Services offers different options for special services that the family can select from. One of these is internment or placing the body into a grave, which our staff have been fully trained to do. In consideration of the practices of different faiths and religions, we can modify the services to meet the preferences of the clients.
Entombment
We can also make the arrangements for an above ground burial or entombment, by placing the body in a crypt, vault, or mausoleum. Byles-MacDougall Funeral Services is there to ensure that the family is able to give their loved one a fitting entombment service.
DEATH AWAY FROM HOME
The family can easily be overwhelmed when death happens in a place away from home. Byles-MacDougall Funeral Services can help in this situation. We can also handle the arrangements in the event that the family specifies that the services are held out of town. In coordination with other funeral directors, Byles-MacDougall Funeral Services ensures that the proper funeral is given in the desired location.
DEATH CERTIFICATE AND CERTIFIED COPIES
A death certificate is one of the documents needed when someone passes away. It functions as a permanent record of death and contains information such as the doctor-certified cause of death, vital statistics, and information about disposition. A death certificate is also needed to get a burial, cremation, or removal permit. Fees may vary from state to state. In Connecticut, the current fee for the death certificate is $10
We are ready to help you get the death certificate in order. Simply tell the funeral director the number of certified copies of death certificate that you require and we can get additional copies from the town where the death occurred
SOCIAL SECURITY
Understanding the Social Security benefits is necessary to secure the future of the beneficiaries of the deceased. Currently, the death benefit is pegged at $255, which goes to the surviving spouse or dependent child. A child who is over 18 but is a full-time student can also avail of benefits.
We can assist you in understanding the benefits that you can receive from Social Security. For more information, you can call the Social Security office at (800) 772-1213 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or log on to www.socialsecurity.gov
