William G. Yamalis, 69, off 12 Sea Breeze Ave. in Niantic, CT formerly of East Hartford passed away Wed., Mar. 31, 2010 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1940 in Rhodes, Greece the son of George and Stavrosia Hatzikostantis Yamalis and came to the Unites States in 1951.
Mr. Yamilis was married to the former Katherine Haralambus on Oct. 4, 1970 in Rhodes.
He had received his B.S. Degree from UCONN, was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He then went on to a career of over 25 years working for the Veterans Administration at the Newington Veterans Hospital, first as a Bio-Chemist and retiring as a lab supervisor. Mr. Yamalis was named the Employee of the Year in 1978.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Stacey Lyster and her husband Ryan of Niantic, a son Harry W. Yamalis and his wife Karen of Manchester, 3 grandchildren Samantha, Nathan and Phineas.
He had also been predeceased by a brother Kyriakos Yamalis.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 Monday April 5, at the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead St., New London.
His burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London.
There will be a visiting hour from 10:30 to 11:30 at the church prior to the service.
