IRENE E. HUYTER age 91 of 425 Drozdyk Dr, Groton passed away Sunday evening, February 21, 2010 at her residence.
Irene was born in Manhattan, New York on December 27, 1918 the daughter of John and Veronica Kovacs Pipa.
She married Louis Huyter in New York on October 5, 1940. Louis passed away March 3, 1986.
Irene worked as the head dietician at St. Frances of Rome School in New York.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Keane of Gales Ferry. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephen, Terrance, Mellisa and Matthew Huyter and his wife Jene, and Michael and Jason Keane and his wife Kimberly as well as nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Louis P. Huyter, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Route 12, Gales Ferry. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, New York. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 o’clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be directed to the American Red Cross, 200 Boston Post Road, Waterford, CT 06385.
