            James J. Gaffney, 95, formerly of Hynes Ave. in Groton, passed away Sat., Feb. 13, 2010 at the Fairview in Groton.
            He was born in New York City on Jan. 15, 1915, the son of James J. and Sarah Bannon Gaffney.
            Mr. Gaffney was pre-deceased by his first wife Anne Palu Gaffney, the mother of his children; and also by his second wife Ella Carroll Gaffney.
            He had worked for several years as a designer at the
Electric Boat Company in Groton. Prior to joining E. B., he had worked as a naval architect for 23 years for Gibbs & Cox in New York City.
            His memberships include the Sacred Heart Church in Groton, Groton Lodge of Elks, life member of both Bronxonia and Locust Pt. Yacht Clubs (Past Commodore) in New York.
            Survivors include a daughter Judith A. Kolt of Mahopac, NY, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
            Funeral service will be held at 11 am Thurs., Feb. 18 at the Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
            Burial will follow in the Elm Groove Cemetery, Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
