Theodora “Teddie” Benois Zrakas, 83, of 6 Pleasant St. in Niantic passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2010.
She was born on Apr. 14, 1926 in New London the daughter of Alexander and Stella Arapakis Benois.
Teddie was married on Apr. 27, 1952 in New London to the late Charles T. Zrakas. Charlie passed away Mar. 21, 2009.
Teddie was a 1943 graduate of the former Williams Memorial Institute ( now The Williams School in New London) and a 1945 graduate of the former New London Business College.
She went on to work and retire from the accounting department at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London after many years. She was also a member of the L & M Hospital Auxiliary, to which she had volunteered many hours over the years. She and her husband were also long time members of the L.A.M.B.S. club of the hospital.
Teddie and Charlie were very active members of the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church in New London. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society as well.
Her other membership was to the Thames River Garden Club.
She is survived by two daughters and a son in law, Stephanie and Tom Wilde of Potomac, MD, Sandy Zrakas of West Hartford, a brother George Benois of NYC and two granddaughters Alexandra and Emily Wilde.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead St., New London with burial to follow in the Union Cemetery in Niantic.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
