Electa Corson Tubbs, 94, of 425 Drozdyk Dr. in Groton, formerly of Gallup Lane in Waterford passed away Tues., Dec. 29, 2009 at the Fairview in Groton.
Mrs. Tubbs was born on Nov. 16, 1915 in Jonesport, ME., the daughter of David H. and Lillian Gladys Beaugeard Corson.
Electa was married to the late Paul B. Tubbs on Jan. 1, 1941 in Hodgdon, ME. Mr. Tubbs died on Dec. 28, 2000.
Mrs. Tubbs was a graduate of the Bates College in Maine; and had taught English for many years in the New London School System.
A longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church of New London, she was a former Deaconess as well as a member of the Circle 12 and a member and past president of the Women’s Fellowship at the church.
Her interests included gardening, cooking, baking, preserving fruits and vegetables; and was well known for having taught many of the neighborhood children how to do these things.
Her survivors include a daughter and son in law Catherine and Joe Burdeshaw of Oakdale, a son David P. Tubbs and his wife Susan E. Howe Tubbs of Gales Ferry, a sister Ilda Farnum of Greensboro, NC, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She had also been predeceased by two sisters Irma Page and Natalie Corson
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Sat, Jan 9 at the First Baptist Church of New London on State Street.
Her burial in the Old Stone Cemetery in Niantic will be private.
