James M. Dowd, Sr., 69, of 268 Flanders Rd. in Mystic, passed away Tues., Dec. 22, 2009 at the Pendleton Healthcare in Mystic.

            He was born on Feb. 5, 1949 in Laconia, NH, the son of Clarence M. and Alice Bunker Dowd.

            Mr. Dowd spent his working career as a boilermaker, first at Electric Boat in Groton for 10 years; and than for the Fisher Tank Company in Chester, PA from where he retired.

            His survivors include his daughter Cheryl Destremps and her husband Henry E. of Groton, his sons James M. Dowd, Jr. and his wife Ruth of North Stonington, Craig A. Dowd of Virginia, 6 grandchildren, Jason, Michael, Jessica, James 3rd, Jamie, Jennifer and a great granddaughter Alyssa.

            Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. is assisting the family with services which are to be private.
