Susan Therese Dougherty- Baker, of Fort Hill Road, Groton, CT. went home to Our Dear Lord, and Savior on Friday December 18, 2009 after a long illness.
She was born on February 22, 1956 in New London, the daughter of Ida E. Sellitti- Dougherty of New London and the late Francis X. Dougherty, Sr.
Susan graduated from New London High School with honors in 1974. License in Cosmetology, she also had received her Bachelors of Science in Computers Sciences from The University of New Haven. Artist, musician, song writer, writer, marksman and instructor of firearms, safety and member of the Rifle Association. Designer of Gold-leafing motifs that won her recognition at the Hygienic Art Show. Owner and operator of Motifs by Susan an online business. “TAPESTRIES BY STBAKER” all original and hand sewn. In addition to her dynamic talents she developed, ran and supported a ministry for those in prisons under a pen name Erica Cheateau. Susan was the family historian. She loved to restore antiques, avid gardener. One of her greatest passions was time spent on the boat with her very dear friend and companion.
Susan was employed with Martin Marietta Corp for 9 years as Office Manager. Administrative Assistant for Pfizer projects for Gilbane Construction and Harry Grodsky & Co, Inc. She was employed by The Navel Underwater Sound Lab in New London as a Security officer for seven years.
Besides her mother, Susan is survived by her spouse William Davis, of Groton, Ct, her brothers and sisters: Francis Dougherty Jr. of Spencer, MA., John Dougherty of Webster, MA, Catherine McCarthy-Schaffer of Easton, PA, Marie Dougherty-Fogg of New London, CT, Therese Dougherty of New London, CT, Anthony Dougherty, of Norwich, CT. Elizabeth Spicer of Lisbon, CT, Margaret Dougherty of Webster, MA, Joseph Dougherty of East Lyme. CT. and life long friend and companion: Robert Flauta of Montvitle, CT. She also leaves behind her 28 lovable nieces and nephews that she was devoted to. In addition, she leaves behind her sweet 13 grand nieces and nephews from New London area whom she spent numerous weekends with them doing crafts, baking, writing, painting to list a few.
Susan lived life with 100% intensity! We will miss you immensely.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday January 11, 2009 at the St. Joseph's Church, Montauk and Squire Sts. in New London, CT. Her entombment in the St. Mary Mausoleum in New London will follow
