Harriet A. Doukas, 89, of 235 Lestertown Rd. in Groton passed away Mon. Dec. 7, 2009 at the Fairview Nursing Home in Groton.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1920 in Cornish, NH the daughter of James and Theresa McAdam Rogers.
She is survived by her 6 daughters and their husbands Theresa, Sheila and Tom Williams, Ellen and Matt Hasselmann, Catherine, Suzanne and Mark Niermeyer, Nicolette and her husband, Mark Kuhn, 3 sons Stephen, J. Kevin, F. Joseph, a brother Philip Rogers, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Harriet Hagelin, her grandson Heath Caputo, and the love of her life, Nicholas Doukas.
In her youth she loved work and travel. She left Claremont, New Hampshire at 21 years old to live in St Petersburg, Florida where she remained until she left to live and work in Harford, Connecticut. On a visit to Niantic with her best friend, Marge Nolan, she met a her future husband and father of her 10 children.
The Doukas family would like to express their profound gratitude to her family at the Fairview Nursing Home. All of whom she shared her memories, her compassion, and her humor, from the loving and caring staff to the wonderful residents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Fri., Dec. 11 at the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Dr., Groton.
Her burial will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
