Wallace Latham Trolan, Sr., 71, of 51 Ramsdell St. in Groton passed away Friday December 4, 2009 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London after a brief illness.
He was born on July 1, 1938 in New London, the son of John and Jean Anderson Trolan.
Wally served as a member of the U.S. Naval Submarine Service and then went on to a long career at the Electric Boat Company in Groton, retiring as the Sea Trials Director for the shipyard. He also served as a member of the Groton City Police department and was very involved in a number of local historical societies and organizations. He was very proud of his long family ties to the area dating back to the founding of Groton and New London and as a Mayflower descendent.
Wally was an avid sports fan, in particular, UCONN Basketball, NASCAR Racing, the Boston Red Sox; and he loved gardening.
He is survived by daughter Lisa A. Latham of Montville, two sons Wallace L., Jr. of Nashua, NH and Patrick J. of Norwich, three brothers John R. of Groton, Andrew H. of Niantic, Richard W., II of Hawaii, six grandchildren and his long time companion Cynthia Allyn of Groton and her son Stephen.
He was also predeceased by his parents and a sister, Jean Pinette
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday Dec. 8 at the Groton Congregational Church, 162 Monument St., Groton.
His burial will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton.
There will be a visiting hour at the church from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service.
